Margaret Wolfson, Psy.D., is a licensed psychology associate and postdoctoral fellow who specializes in treating anxiety and related disorders in children, adolescents, and young adults. Her treatment areas of focus include anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety, social anxiety, separation anxiety, specific phobias, and OCD), parent training, and behavior management. Dr. Wolfson utilizes evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy treatments including: Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Behavioral Activation, Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). Dr. Wolfson enjoys working collaboratively with clients and helping them feel supported, understood, and empowered to make meaningful progress towards their goals.
She has worked with a diverse range of clients in a variety of settings including elementary, middle, and high schools, college counseling centers, and private practice. Within these settings, Dr. Wolfson has extensive experience providing individual and group therapy, administering and interpreting psychological assessments, collaborating with parents and school teams during 504 and IEP meetings, and engaging in interdisciplinary consultation with educators, medical providers, behavioral specialists, and other professionals.
Dr. Wolfson earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors from the University of Chicago. She earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Xavier University with an emphasis on working with children and adolescents, and she completed her pre- doctoral internship at Virginia Beach City Public Schools. In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Wolfson was awarded the Frank G. and Catherine A. Miltz Mentoring Grant and Xavier University’s Dissertation of the Year Award for her dissertation research on moral identity.
Originally from the DMV area, Dr. Wolfson attended Montgomery County Public Schools and is well acquainted with the pressures that many individuals in the area face, whether related to academics, athletics, careers, or other pursuits. As a former Division III varsity swimmer, All-American athlete, and UAA champion, she understands the challenges of balancing achievement, well-being, and personal growth. To maintain balance in her own life, Dr. Wolfson enjoys taking her dog for long walks and still getting in an occasional swim.
